Greece is the word!

Tomorrow Florence and I will drive to Atlanta to begin our trip to Greece. We will be traveling with Precept ministries to many of the places Paul visited on his second missionary journey. This has been a dream of Florences for many years and I am always ready for a good trip so off we go. We hope to be able to update the blog on a regular basis but since we aren't carrying a computer, who knows when we'll be able to post during the trip. There will certainly be pictures when we get back.
We will be studying the books of 1 & 2 Thessolonians, 1&2 Corinthians, Galatians, Ephesians, Phillippians, Colossians and Revelations (Patmos) as well as visiting all of those places. Reading Paul's travels will never be the same for us. We are ready to learn!
Our means of transportation will be car, plane, train, bus and ship. Please pray for our safety.
I have been so blessed to have this opportunity. I'll share as much with you as possible.

Grease or Greece is the word!

Last night the girls, P, M, and I went to see Grease. The story was too old for the little girls but I'm sure they would have loved the music and dancing. More to follow.

India only 3 hours from Bham

This lady made me feel that I was back in India. The ladies are all so beautiful. Notice the Hindu paint on her forehead.

Clarkston Block Party September 19, 2009

On Saturday I went with the HSBC team for a block party in Clarkston. Our target group was the refugees from Bhutan which is in southern Nepal. We had a wonderful time despite the soggy conditions. Lots of people came to eat with us and several groups went out to do door to door evangelism. I got to serve tea and ask questions fon a survey for CIBC. It was interesting to hear all the needs of the people. Some that really got to me was their need for rice, coats, shoes and school supplies. They all came to the US with nothing. We will continue working in that apartment complex so hopefully we will get to meet some of their needs as well as introduce them to Jesus. All the people I surveyed told me they were interested in learning more about the Bible. That was exciting to me because many of the older people had Hindu paint on their faces.
Several of them made me feel like I was back in India. There are also refugees from Iraq in that complex. One lady in her Muslim dress came to get food for her family. What a blessing it was on this dreary day to be able to participate in this work.

Flu bug!

Today AC was told by her doctor that she has the flu even though her flu test was negative. Since it is Thursday, she got to stay with me. I told her we would have homeschool today. We began the day with reading time. We read The Boxcar Children - all 154 pages. Now we are using my white boards from my math days to practice her name, the number 5 and the alphabet. It has really been fun!

Play day at Hunta's

The girls came over yesterday to play. Since school has started, they don't get to come much. I decided to get out the tent and tunnel that Paul bought for Madeline when she was little. Anna Claire said "Pa Paul sure did like to buy toys for us to play with." I can't imagine what we would have if he had been able to buy for all five of the grandgirls!
I have had too much time to be by myself for the last few days because work has been slow. But God in His faithfulness got me back on track today. Wendy gave her testimony at church, Buddy preached on Psalms 57, and Florence taught from Psalms 9. Psalm 57:7, 9-11 has been part of the testimony that I give when I am on a mission trip. "My heart is steadfast, O God, my heart is steadfast; I will sing and make music. I will praise you, O LORD, among the nations, I will sing of you among the peoples. For great is your love, reaching to the heavens; you faithfulness reaches to the skies. Be exalted, O God, above the heavens, let your glory be over all the earth." Soli Deo Gloria

Always Loved

Always Loved had our third banquet last night. There were lots of widows there. Our speaker, Karen R, did a wonderful job encouraging us to keep living and loving. One of her verses was Hebrews 10:24. "And let us consider how we may spur one another on toward love and good deeds." This is the verse that God gave me about two years ago when I knew that we must start this ministry at HS. It was so wonderful to look at all the ladies who were there and reflect on how God's love and the love of the AL ladies has helped them live in spite of their circumstances.

Gone to the dogs

My weekend has gone to the dogs - the granddogs that is. With the fam celebrating the holiday, I am in charge of Marshall, Caroline and Fran. All has gone well so far!
Today was a Psalms day at church. In SS we studied Psalm 19 which ends in one of my favoirte prayers. "Let the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart be acceptable in Your sight, O LORD, my strength and my Redeemer." In worship Buddy preached on Psalm 121 which is one of my favorites. I am so thankful for the encouragement today.
